Yoga and Pregnancy : Part 3

Now I am about to approach the end of the project ‘pregnancy’ with the expected result of naturall birth of a healthy baby…my daily yoga practice becomes more regular with 45 mins of walk…its starting of the 8th month and here I am in my university again for my last semester exam…following the daily routine and studying becomes the focus of my life …the picture on my laptop is becoming more lively day by day…we both have started talking to each other….every time I attend the bhajan session and bhagavad gita chanting the ‘little one’ inside seems to enjoy and keeps kicking with his little feet…so finally its end of the exam and I am settled in my mom’s house.
Its end of the 9th month and the website says I should pack the hospital bags and be prepared for the D day…My husband is working from my hometown to be with me on the special day…i have doubled the rounds of duck walking and have also started sweeping my room to get the necessary pelvic pressure …friends and relatives have started calling and checking on me…
Somehow I am very confident about the things to come…I am instructing my baby to come only when he/she is ready…
It’s the morning of the last day of the 40th week… 5.30 am…and here I am with my little bundle of joy …I have delivered a healthy baby boy weighing 3.5 kgs after undergoing 2.5 hrs of active labor…I look at the baby next to me and I see two little grey eyes eagerly looking at me with brownish hair scattered on the forehead and chubby cheeks… It dawns on me that finally the project pregnancy has come to a successful end…

Creative visualization, works…
Controlling your diet during pregnancy, works…
Taking time out to meditate, become aware of your changing body and mind, works…
Yoga during pregnancy, works…
You have to experience it yourself…!!

Yoga and Pregnancy : Part 2

It’s end of the 3rd month and I am in my yoga university for the masters contact program…my batch mates are all excited about the news…here in the university , its like I am back with my extended family…even the daily yog-sadhana becomes more regular …my mood swings seem to be disappearing in the serenity of the atmosphere…I just cannot miss evening bhajan sessions as it let me reach to the core of my emotions…sometimes I am forgetting why I am here in this place during the bhakti sandhya…the power of this emotion culture just amazes me…and to top it all my teacher, one of the senior most personalities in the university starts 7 day discourse on Ramayana…everyone is telling me how fortunate I am to expose my baby to these lectures..more than my baby I want to grab each and every word which is coming out of his mouth…he is explaining the beauty of every eminent personality in Ramayana along with their duties…he takes it to the whole new level creating a long lasting impact on the audience…

It’s the end of the contact program and thanks to the encouragement by my batch mates, I decide to complete my masters as planned irrespective of the pregnancy…I am suddenly excited with the new challenge and start listing down the things to do with the timelines, resources etc…with my family support the goal of getting the degree on time looks achievable…by now I have almost forgotten about the existence of my ‘little one’….

Second trimester has been pretty smooth, I am gaining weight as per the recommendation by my doctor…2 to 2.5 kgs per month…this time I plan to gain not more than 12 kgs in 9 months…I am enjoying my revised diet…at this point of time I am kind of obsessed with fruits…I easily finish one papaya /muskmelon before my daily breakfast…and then finish eating 1-2 apples/bananas/seasonal fruits by the time I go to bed….my increased appetite is forcing me to have heavy breakfast with a glass of milk, lunch and dinner consisting of one portion each of dhal, salad, vegetables, and roti/rice… not to forget soaked almonds, black raisins and green leafy vegetables to improve the digestion….my water intake has been increased to 3.5/4 liters a day…I totally believe in the saying ‘ you are what you eat’…so all this is helping me to maintain the levels of hemoglobin, sugar and yes the amniotic fluid to the required amount…I have even prepared a check-list to keep track of my diet and the must to do activities in a day…which I check daily in the night before going to bed…once all items are ticked , am all satisfied with my performance of the day and I am good to go to the bed….

Concluding part coming soon…:)

Yoga and Pregnancy : Part 1

The Little One : Part 1

My colleague in the office has a picture of a baby on his desktop. Winking grey eyes, naughty smiling face, brownish hair scattered on his forehead…every time I see that picture, something gets excited inside…I cannot take off my eyes from the baby…so I have borrowed it from him and now it sits on my laptop…I spend hours and hours daily staring at the picture…it feels like the baby is eager to show me something, may be one of its mischief’s…

I am into the 2nd month of pregnancy and have started feeling much better compared to the first month… the baby has troubled me in the first month as I have to stay away from solid food, thanks to the nausea…off course liquid diet like fruit juice and lots of water is helping me to stay energetic and fit for the day…

And so today I start my yoga practice. Everyone in the house is sleeping and here I am on my yoga mat alone at 5.30 a.m….actually I am not alone as ‘the little one’ is there inside my womb….so two of us start the practice…it feels little strange at this point to think about the little one…Nice music with the beats is playing at the background…it has a power to keep you awake and get going straight into the practice…I start with the loosening exercises…slow neck bending to the sides followed by twisting, ending with the rotation of the neck with breathing and awareness…I finish up with shoulders, wrists, ankles and knees..i can feel how tired my body has become…with the loosening I start feeling much better and relaxed…it’s like with every rotation I am attending to the part of the body, listening to what it has to say and then recharging it with the blood supply and extra oxygen with every breath…all set for the postures now….i am little apprehensive about the forward bends so decide to stick to my favorite side bending postures…while holding the trikonasana posture in the final stage I am feeling so light like I am almost weightless…and the practice continues…its almost 45 mins since I have started…time to get ready for the office so I decide to pack-up…day 1 of yoga session has been really good for me ..in the office I am very much energetic throughout the day …

Part 2 to be followed shortly!…:)
